NEW SHIRT SPONSER
O2, a leading provider of mobile communications services in Europe, and Arsenal Football Club today teamed up to form one of the most technically and commercially advanced interactive sponsorship deals in English football.

From August this year, O2 will become the official club sponsor and exclusive mobile communications partner to Arsenal, in the biggest club sponsorship deal the Gunners has ever signed.

In addition to a Club record up-front sponsorship fee, Arsenal will also receive a percentage share of network revenue generated from jointly branded new, high-speed and interactive mobile data and audio services designed to provide the Club's international fan base with 'real-time' up-to-the-minute information. O2 and Arsenal will work together on combined sponsorship and advertising opportunities across Europe through a range of media, including broadcast, print and online and interactive services.

Today's announcement builds on the launch of the new brand O2, culminating in an exciting new advertising campaign, which will hit TV screens in May 2002.

Dave McGlade, managing director, O2 UK, said: "O2 is a European brand and Arsenal is a very successful club, with an international reputation and proven European credentials. Together, we believe we can perform at the highest level and go on to even greater achievements in 2002 and beyond. This partnership is financially beneficial to both parties, an enormous brand builder and, above all, great for the fans and customers."

David Dein, vice-chairman, Arsenal Football Club, added: "We are delighted to have signed a record sponsorship deal with O2. Both Arsenal and O2 are leaders in their own fields and, by joining forces, we have created a dynamic new partnership. It is also exciting news for our supporters who will benefit greatly from O2's involvement with the Club through the introduction of many new exclusive and innovative services. Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to a prosperous working relationship with O2."

More than 20 personalised, video, audio and multimedia services are being developed by O2 and Arsenal. These range from ring-tones, icons and phone messages to exclusive manager and player insights, an Arsenal daily trivia game, priority ticket text service, live match commentary, and pre and post match audio analysis.

O2 will also develop an exclusive Arsenal post and pre-pay mobile phone, which will go on sale in Arsenal stores and O2's new customer centres in time for the 2002/03 season. Arsenal fans will also be able to enter regular competitions to win match tickets as well as vote for their Man of the Match, live at each game - all via their mobile phones and new mobile data devices
